Techie Atul Subhash's tragic suicide: Kangana Ranaut speaks out on extortion allegations
The tragic suicide of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash has sent shockwaves across the nation. Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has commented on the case, stating that Subhash was extorted for crores of rupees, far beyond his financial means. She referred to the video he left behind, detailing his harassment by his estranged wife, as "heartbreaking."
Subhash's family has filed a police complaint alleging abetment of suicide against his daughter-in-law, her family members, and a judge.
Kangana Ranaut's Statement
"The entire country is in shock. His video is heartbreaking. Fake feminism is condemnable. Extortion of crores of rupees was being done, which is much more than his financial capacity. The man took the extreme step as he was under tremendous pressure," said Ranaut, dressed in a pink saree and cream blazer, speaking to reporters in Hindi.
The 38-year-old MP, known for her outspoken nature, also acknowledged the daily harassment faced by many women. "We cannot deny the number of women who are being harassed every day by taking the example of one wrong woman. In 99% of marriage cases, it's the men who are at fault. That's why such mistakes also happen," she added.
Ranaut emphasized the importance of traditional values in marriage, cautioning against the influence of "socialism" and "Communism."
Supreme Court's View on Misuse of Laws
Earlier today, the Supreme Court highlighted the "growing tendency to misuse" laws meant to protect women from cruelty by their in-laws. The court urged caution to prevent unnecessary harassment of innocent people in dowry harassment cases.
Details of Atul Subhash's Case
Atul Subhash recorded an 80-minute video and wrote a 24-page suicide note before taking his life. In these, he accused his estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family of filing multiple false cases against him and his family to extort money. Subhash criticized the justice system for his plight.
The couple, who met through a matchmaking website, married in 2019 and have a four-year-old son. According to Subhash's note, his wife's family repeatedly demanded money in lakhs. When he refused, his wife left their Bengaluru home with their son in 2021.
In 2022, his wife filed several serious charges against him, including allegations of murder and unnatural sex, and claimed he demanded a dowry of ₹10 lakh. She linked these demands to her father's heart attack and subsequent death.
Subhash retaliated by filing a counter-case, accusing his wife of making false accusations against his elderly parents and brother.
Final Wishes
In his video, Subhash asked his family not to immerse his ashes until justice was served. He left a heartfelt message for his son, whom he claimed had been kept away from him, and requested that his parents be granted custody of the child.
