In a tragic incident at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), a third-year Nepali student was found dead in her hostel room, sparking outrage and demands for justice. The student's father, Sunil Lamsal, has alleged that she was harassed and emotionally blackmailed, which led to her suicide.

Speaking to the media, Lamsal said, "We know an investigation is underway, and the post-mortem report will be out soon. However, we have information that she was harassed, which pushed her to take this extreme step. One person has been arrested, and I believe he is responsible for what happened. The police have taken her phone, laptop, and diary for forensic examination. The administration is cooperating, but we demand justice for our daughter."

Meanwhile, concerns were raised over reports that Nepali students were being asked to leave campus. "This is not right. We want justice and nothing else," Lamsal stated.

KIIT Sets Up 24/7 Support for Nepali Students

In response to the growing concerns, KIIT University has established a 24/7 control room at its Campus 6 to assist Nepali students returning to the university. The institute has also launched round-the-clock helplines (+91 7847064550 & +91 7855029322) for support and guidance.

In a post on X, KIIT reassured students, saying, "We remain committed to their safety and well-being. We urge all Nepali students to reach out for any assistance."

Nepal’s Foreign Minister Intervenes

The incident has also caught the attention of Nepal's Foreign Minister, Arzu Rana Deuba, who has taken diplomatic action. Deuba revealed that she contacted Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Navin Srivastava, to discuss the safety and well-being of Nepali students in KIIT.

"After the tragic news of Prakriti Lamsal’s death and reports of Nepali students being asked to vacate hostels, we took the matter seriously and initiated diplomatic efforts," Deuba said. She also instructed Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Dr. Shankar Sharma, to assess the situation and take necessary steps to protect the students.

KIIT Agrees to Allow Nepali Students to Resume Studies

Following the rising concerns and diplomatic interventions, KIIT University has now agreed to allow over 700 Nepali students to return to their hostels and continue their studies.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
