Intruder at Saif Ali Khan's home demands Rs 1 crore ransom
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his home in Bandra West, Mumbai, early Thursday morning by an intruder demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore, police sources revealed. The attacker, armed with a knife, entered the room of Khan’s four-year-old son, Jehangir (Jeh), before being confronted by a nurse and eventually Khan himself.
The attack left Saif Ali Khan, 54, critically injured with six stab wounds, including a severe injury to his spinal cord. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital by his son Ibrahim, reportedly in an auto-rickshaw after delays with their car. Thankfully, doctors have since confirmed that Khan’s condition is stable.
The incident occurred in Khan’s apartment, which spans four floors in a twelve-storey luxury building. The attacker was caught on CCTV entering the premises through an adjacent compound. Footage shows him wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and an orange scarf.
Sequence of Events
The intruder was first noticed around 2 am by the household nurse, Eliyama Phillipes, who has been with the family for four years. Initially dismissing noises as a family member checking on Jeh, she grew suspicious upon seeing a man emerge from the bathroom and enter the child’s room.
When confronted, the man threatened her and demanded Rs 1 crore. Despite being injured in the confrontation, the nurse screamed, alerting Saif Ali Khan. The actor rushed to the scene and tried to fend off the attacker, sustaining six stab wounds in the process. Doctors revealed that a knife fragment lodged in Khan’s thoracic spinal cord, alongside injuries to his neck and hand, which required plastic surgery.
Another staff member, a maid named Geeta, was also injured during the scuffle.
Police Investigation and Security Lapses
The police have registered a case for robbery, trespassing, and grievous harm under Indian Penal Code provisions. The suspect remains at large.
Questions have been raised about the building’s security measures, with critics pointing to how the intruder bypassed guards and entered undetected.
Political and Public Reactions
The attack has sparked outrage and political debate. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the incident “unfortunate” but dismissed claims of Mumbai being unsafe. Opposition leaders, including Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, criticized the government for its handling of security in the city. Chaturvedi questioned, “If celebrities aren’t safe, how can ordinary citizens feel secure?”
The incident has also drawn reactions from the film fraternity, with many expressing concern over the safety of high-profile individuals in Mumbai.
This shocking attack has left fans and well-wishers of Saif Ali Khan praying for his recovery, while the police work to apprehend the intruder and address the glaring security loopholes.
