A shooting at an education centre in Orebro, Sweden, has left five people injured, with one critically hurt. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Risbergska school, an adult education centre located about 200 kilometers west of Stockholm.

Police were alerted to the situation at around 12:33 PM local time. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area, although they believe the immediate danger has passed. All the injured have been taken to the hospital, with four individuals undergoing surgery. One person is reported to be in critical condition.

Reports from multiple media outlets suggest that several people may have been killed, though police have not confirmed any fatalities. Local health services representative Jonas Claesson indicated that more injuries could have occurred but did not specify further details.

The shooting is currently being treated as an attempted murder, arson, and aggravated weapons offense. Police have launched an investigation and evacuated nearby schools as a precaution.

The suspect is believed to be a man, but further details about the individual have not been released. Swedish police have stated that one of the injured individuals is suspected to be the perpetrator of the attack.

Nearby hospitals are preparing for a surge of patients, with emergency rooms and intensive care units being cleared to make room for incoming casualties. Students from surrounding schools were kept inside for safety reasons during the ongoing investigation.

Teacher Lena Warenmark, who was nearby, reported hearing around 10 gunshots close to her study area. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his sorrow over the incident, calling it a "painful day" for Sweden. He emphasized that no one should have to experience fear for their life while in a classroom.

The Swedish government is closely monitoring the situation and will hold a news conference later today to provide further updates.
