Atul Subhash suicide case: Estranged wife and family seek anticipatory bail from Allahabad High Court
In a significant development following the tragic suicide of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, his estranged wife Nikita Singhania, along with her family members, has approached the Allahabad High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The bail plea was filed on December 13 by Nikita, her mother Nisha Singhania, her brother Anurag Singhania, and her uncle Sushil Singhania.
Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old software engineer, left behind a detailed suicide note and a video, both accusing his wife and her family of harassment. He alleged that they drove him to take his own life by filing false cases against him.
The High Court's website indicates that the anticipatory bail plea is scheduled to be heard next week. Representing the Singhania family are Senior Advocate Tejas Singh, along with advocates Ajay Kumar Singh and Aushim Luthra.
The case was initiated when Atul's brother, Bikas Kumar, filed a First Information Report (FIR) in Bengaluru, accusing Nikita and her family of abetment of suicide under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The suicide note and video left by Atul have sparked widespread debate on social media, with many demanding the arrest of Nikita and her family. In his final message, Atul accused them of relentless harassment through multiple matrimonial cases during their ongoing legal battles over divorce, alimony, and child custody in a family court in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Additionally, a public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Supreme Court, highlighting the alleged misuse of dowry and domestic violence laws against men. The PIL seeks guidelines to prevent such misuse and ensure justice in similar cases.
