Hyderabad The Telangana government on Thursday rolled out new Information & Communication Technology for 2021-26. This is the second edition of the policy the State has rolled out since the formation of Telangana State in 2014.

Rekha M Menon, chairperson of IT industry body Nasscom, and senior Managing Director of Accenture India, was chief guest at the event to launch the new ICT policy.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Menon said rapid digitalisation had created a need for new skills which needed to be addressed. "Covid pandemic has once again proved that technology is the lifeline of the society. Despite the pandemic, the IT sector in India continued to grow, accounting for 18 per cent of India's GDP," she said. She appreciated the Telangana government for bringing in progressive ICT policies and encouraging startups.

Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao said that Telangana recorded highest IT growth in India, creating over 2.5 new IT jobs in the last five years. Telangana did extremely in electronics and startups in the last five years, he added.

According to him, Hyderabad is home to 1500 startups which raised Rs 1,800 crore so far. The State has trained over 3 lakh people, making them ready for IT sector.
