TCS Project To Spur IT Boom In Vizag
It’s high time to bring reputed companies since we have been fighting to augment the existing investment landscape by bringing big companies and strengthening the social infrastructure to develop other allied sectors like tourism and industries - Sreedhar Kosaraju, MD of Nimaisoft Systems Pvt Ltd, tells Bizz Buzz
Visakhapatnam: The long-awaited dream to transform Visakhapatnam, the biggest city of Andhra Pradesh, into a prominent IT hub may become a reality with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) planning to set up a development centre in the City of Destiny.
Despite oft-repeated promises to make Visakhapatnam, popular as Vizag by the powers-that-be it, into a leading IT hub, it has remained an empty rhetoric.
More or else the city has remained as a low-cost BPO hub with the turnover hovering around Rs2,000 crore to Rs3,000 crore for several years. Stakeholders in the sector have been batting for bringing big ticket projects for a long time. Though Wipro and Tech Mahindra have set up their operations for over a decade, they have not scaled up their operations due to various reasons and let out part of their premises to other players. IBM and HSBC have shifted their operations.
“It’s high time to bring reputed companies since we have been fighting to augment the existing investment landscape by bringing big companies and strengthening the social infrastructure to develop other allied sectors like tourism and industries,” Sreedhar Kosaraju, MD of Nimaisoft Systems Pvt Ltd, told Bizz Buzz on Thursday.
He said the initiative taken up by Minister for IT, Electronics and HRD Nara Lokesh to bring TCS with huge investment to Vizag will be a game-changer to make the city a prominent hub for IT and ITeS.
Earlier, Lokesh, son of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, took to micro-blogging site X to say “I’m happy to announce the development of an IT facility by the Tata Consultancy Services Ltd in Vizag that will house 10,000 employees. We are committed to offering best-in-class investment climate to corporates driven by our motto of ‘speed of doing business’. This investment by TCS is an important milestone as we work to make AP as India’s No. 1 state to do business.”
His announcement has brought cheers among the key players in this region. O Naresh Kumar, V-P, Rushikonda IT Park Association (RITPA), and CEO Symbiosis Technologies, welcomed the bold initiative taken by Lokesh to bring TCS to Vizag.
While profusely thanking the Minister, he said this is the first big step to boost the IT ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh in general and Vizag in particular.
