Hyderabad: As Formula E navigates discussions with the new Telangana government, the looming uncertainty surrounding the February event hasn't dampened their efforts. Despite potential challenges, the organizers are actively engaging in dialogues to secure the upcoming race, while also considering the future editions, notably the 2024 event. Formula E has issued a statement citing, “urgent clarification” from the Telangana government for the India round of the electric car championship.
The inaugural races of the Hyderabad e-Prix were hosted in February this year. The next race is scheduled to take place on February 10, 2024, with the 11-round 2024 session in November 2024. However, Formula E spokespersons have revealed that the new Telangana govt may not adhere to the contractual commitments signed earlier, which could impact the race.
The 2023 race encountered logistical hurdles, notably with city traffic accessing the track during practice sessions. Despite these obstacles, the event's overall economic impact on the region was estimated at a significant $84 million, reinforcing the potential benefits of hosting such an international event in Hyderabad.
With ongoing discussions and efforts to resolve uncertainties, Formula E remains hopeful for a positive resolution that ensures the successful continuation of the race, contributing both economically and culturally to the region. Further updates are expected as these discussions progress.
