Thomas Dohmke, the CEO of GitHub, which is owned by Microsoft, is currently in India for a conference.
It's his first visit to the country as the head of the popular internet hosting service. However, he's no stranger to India, as he shared a picture from his 2008 trip to Bengaluru.
Scheduled to participate in GitHub Constellation 2024 on June 12 in Bengaluru, Dohmke aims to engage with and celebrate India's thriving developer community. The event is set to delve into crucial topics such as AI, collaboration, community, and security.
Interestingly, this visit comes around a year after GitHub laid off a significant portion of its workforce in India. As per reports, around 85 percent of the employees, totaling 183 out of 216, were laid off.
In an email message to employees, he explained the reasons behind the job cuts and stressed the importance of GitHub's short-term health.
He took to X platform, formerly known as Twitter, to share a picture of his last visit to India.
“Although this is my first visit as GitHub CEO in India, this is not my first time here. I love this country. This is me in 2008, in Bengaluru — I haven’t aged at all. India is at the nexus of monumental economic opportunity, as it is set to become the world’s largest developer community at the exact point in time the age of AI is taking off. More from me on this soon. Fair warning: I’ll be posting a lot this week. Namaste, India!” he wrote on X.
GitHub, headquartered in San Francisco, California, is a developer-centric platform where developers can craft, store, oversee, and distribute their code efficiently.
