Union IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, representing India at the AI Safety Summit in the UK, had an interesting encounter with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. During their meeting, Musk revealed that his son with tech venture capitalist Shivon Zilis has the middle name Chandrasekhar, named after Nobel laureate Professor Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, the Indian astrophysicist known for his theoretical studies on the structure and evolution of stars, who received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1983. Musk and Zilis affectionately call their son Sekhar for short.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar shared this fascinating discovery on X (formerly Twitter), along with a picture from their encounter at the AI Safety Summit held at Bletchley Park in the UK. The summit, hosted by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Bletchley Park, the historic site where Alan Turing's team broke the Enigma code during World War II, brought together representatives from around the world to discuss artificial intelligence (AI) safety.
Chandrasekhar, during his participation in the summit, emphasized India's vision for innovative technology as a driver of economic growth. He highlighted the significance of the digital economy and the innovation ecosystem and described artificial intelligence as a kinetic enabler for the expanding digital economy, innovation, growth, and governance.
On another note, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak led discussions during the summit and celebrated the Bletchley Declaration, a landmark agreement signed by 28 countries, including India. The declaration signifies a shared responsibility among major AI powers to address risks and collaborate on frontier AI safety and research. The UK played a leading role in initiating this global conversation on AI safety, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing AI-related challenges
