DLF, MRF, Amul, and Paytm—Do you know their full names?

Many well-known Indian brands are recognized by their short names, but do you know what they actually stand for? Let’s uncover the full forms of some of India's biggest brands—DLF, MRF, Amul, and Paytm.
DLF – Delhi Land and Finance
Back in 1946, Chaudhary Raghavendra Singh founded Delhi Land and Finance (DLF) with a vision to develop urban colonies in Delhi. His son-in-law, Kushal Pal Singh, later took charge and helped the company grow into India's largest publicly listed real estate firm. From transforming Gurugram into a business hub in 1985 to building high-end residential and commercial spaces, DLF has played a major role in shaping India's real estate sector.
MRF – Madras Rubber Factory
The Madras Rubber Factory (MRF) started as a small toy balloon manufacturing unit in Chennai (then Madras) in 1946, founded by K. M. Mammen Mappillai. Over time, it expanded into making tread rubber in 1952 and eventually became one of the world’s leading tyre manufacturers. In 1960, MRF partnered with the U.S.-based Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company to enter the tyre industry, making it India’s largest tyre manufacturer today.
Amul – Anand Milk Union Limited
The Anand Milk Union Limited (Amul) revolutionized India’s dairy industry. Established in 1946, the Gujarat-based cooperative was led by Tribhuvandas Patel, who later brought in Verghese Kurien—the man behind India's 'White Revolution.' Amul's innovative dairy model turned India into the world’s largest producer of milk and created the famous slogan, "Amul, The Taste of India."
Paytm – Pay Through Mobile
In 2010, Vijay Shekhar Sharma introduced Pay Through Mobile (Paytm) as a simple mobile recharge platform. Over the years, it transformed into India’s leading digital payments company, allowing users to make transactions via QR codes, Soundbox, and online payment gateways. Today, Paytm is a household name, making cashless payments easier for millions.
