What is your favourite event genre to work on and why?

Corporate events hold a special place in my heart. They combine the best of two worlds: the creative freedom to design impactful experiences and the structured framework that ensures flawless execution. Each event presents a unique opportunity to innovate, whether it’s crafting a memorable product launch, organizing a high-stakes conference, or hosting a team-building retreat that leaves a lasting impression.

What I love most is the challenge of blending creativity with precision, transforming concepts into engaging realities while adhering to strict timelines and objectives. Corporate events also offer the chance to collaborate with some of the brightest minds, fostering relationships that often evolve into long-term partnerships. Beyond the immediate gratification of a successful event, working in this genre helps build a strong reputation and legacy. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how a well-executed corporate event not only strengthens a brand but also opens doors to new opportunities and expands our network. Each event adds a new chapter to our story, reinforcing our commitment to excellence while fueling our pipeline with exciting prospects.

What strategies do you use for dealing with event stress?

Event management is an exhilarating but high-pressure field, and stress comes with the territory. Over the years, I’ve learned that the best way to manage it is by grounding myself in the love and support of my family. Spending quality time with them is my ultimate stress-buster—it’s where I find perspective and recharge my energy.

My wife, Harsha, is my strongest pillar of strength. Her calm demeanor and wise words often help me navigate challenging moments with clarity and confidence. My mother, with her boundless wisdom and unwavering support, reminds me of the value of perseverance. And then there’s my daughter, Niyara, whose laughter and innocence have a magical way of putting everything into perspective.

When things get overwhelming, I lean on these incredible women in my life. Whether it’s a heartfelt conversation, a shared moment of laughter, or just being in their presence, they remind me why I do what I do and keep me motivated to give my best. Family is my anchor, my sanctuary, and my greatest source of inspiration.

How do you see the future of the event industry?

The future of the event industry is brimming with exciting possibilities, driven by innovation, technology, and a deeper emphasis on meaningful experiences. As we move forward, hybrid events will continue to thrive, blending the reach of virtual platforms with the intimacy and engagement of physical gatherings. This shift allows us to connect with diverse audiences across geographies, making events more inclusive and accessible.

Sustainability is another key focus. Clients and attendees are increasingly conscious of eco-friendly practices, pushing the industry to adopt greener solutions, from waste management to energy-efficient venues. Personalisation will redefine how we design events. Leveraging data and AI, we can curate highly tailored experiences that resonate on a deeper level with attendees, ensuring every moment feels special and relevant.

At its core, the event industry will remain a platform for storytelling and connection. While technology and trends evolve, the need for human interaction and creating lasting memories will always be the foundation of our work. As someone who thrives on creativity and innovation, I’m excited to see how the industry will continue to grow, offering endless opportunities to redefine the way we bring people together.

Share one of your challenging events and how you handled it?

One of the most challenging events I’ve faced was a destination wedding last year in Lucknow, hosted on a stunning golf course. It was an incredibly significant event, both for the client and for us, and we had spent three days meticulously building a beautiful setup. However, unseasonal rains struck just hours before the event, completely destroying everything we had created.

In moments like these, staying calm under pressure is crucial. As soon as the rains relented, we immediately activated our contingency plans. Drawing on all available resources, we reached out to our trusted partners, procured fresh flowers, and utilized additional materials we always carry as a backup, an essential habit in our line of work. It was an extraordinary effort by our team, who put their hearts and hands into rebuilding the setup in record time. Their trust in my leadership and their unwavering dedication were pivotal. By pulling together and focusing on the end goal, we transformed what could have been a disaster into a triumph. The wedding went off seamlessly, and seeing the joy on the couple’s faces made all the effort worthwhile. Challenges like these reinforce the importance of preparation, teamwork, and staying composed.

How have you handled the lockdown? Did you do virtual events? How it impacted the industry?

The lockdown was one of the toughest phases we’ve faced as an industry. Events were among the first to shut down and the last to reopen, and the uncertainty took a heavy toll. Many team members, driven by fear and the challenges of the pandemic, chose to leave and return to their hometowns, which began to fragment the team we had built with such care.

I’ve always believed that a strong, resilient team is the heart of any successful business. Thankfully, I was able to retain a few key members who shared my belief in rebuilding and trusted the vision for our future. Their commitment became the foundation for our comeback.

During this time, we pivoted to virtual events and embraced smaller, more intimate gatherings as restrictions eased. While these offered some momentum, it wasn’t nearly enough to sustain the business. Cash flow dried up, and there were difficult months of relying on personal savings to ensure salaries were paid and operations kept running. But I stayed calm, leaned on my faith in the almighty, and focused on seeking new opportunities. The lockdown tested our resilience, but it also strengthened us. Today, we’ve come back stronger, with renewed purpose and a deeper appreciation for the power of perseverance and teamwork.

Finding quality event sponsors, partners, suppliers can be a challenge. What’s your process of evaluating third party vendors?

Finding the right event sponsors, partners, and suppliers is critical to delivering exceptional experiences, and I firmly believe in the power of legacy and trusted references when making these decisions. For me, a vendor’s reputation and track record speak volumes about their reliability and ability to deliver under pressure.

My process begins with seeking recommendations from trusted sources—industry peers, clients, or even past collaborators. A strong reference often indicates a vendor’s consistency, quality, and professionalism. Beyond that, I delve into their legacy: their history in the business, the kind of projects they’ve handled, and the feedback they’ve garnered over time.

How would you deliver an engaging event on a limited budget? Any events that you did thinking out of the box?

Delivering an engaging event on a limited budget is all about maximizing creativity and resourcefulness. One of the most memorable events where we thought out of the box was a corporate gala for a client who had tight budget constraints but wanted to create a premium experience for their attendees.

We began by focusing on the essentials that would make the most impact. Instead of an elaborate venue, we chose a smaller, aesthetically unique location that required minimal décor. For ambiance, we used creative lighting solutions, which are cost-effective yet dramatically enhance the overall vibe.

The highlight of the event were innovative interactive elements. This not only engaged the audience but also gave them a sense of ownership in the event’s success.

By meaningful collaborations, we secured excellence in execution. The result was an unforgettable evening that stayed within budget without compromising on the experience.

Thinking creatively, focusing on priorities, and building strong relationships with partners are the keys to delivering exceptional events, no matter the budget.

Any marketing techniques you use to promote your event?

When it comes to promoting our events, I believe the most powerful marketing tool is word of mouth. This organic form of promotion is built on the foundation of excellence in execution and the superlative relationships we’ve cultivated over the years. Our focus has always been on delivering unforgettable experiences that speak for themselves. When clients are satisfied, they naturally share their positive experiences with others, creating a ripple effect that draws in new business.

What do you enjoy the most about the world of events?

What I enjoy the most about the world of events is that no two days are the same. Every event brings new challenges, and that’s what keeps the work exciting and dynamic. Whether it’s managing complex logistics, meeting tight deadlines, or navigating unexpected surprises, the constant problem-solving and creativity make each project unique.

The best part of this industry, however, is the people we meet. The networking opportunities are endless, and each connection brings new perspectives, ideas, and potential collaborations. From clients to vendors to guests, every interaction is an opportunity to learn and grow.

I often reflect on how this industry has opened doors for me, both professionally and personally. For instance, my first flight was thanks to an event—Crisil flew me from Mumbai to Delhi for the execution of one of their key events. That moment was amilestone, and little did I know that it would be the beginning of countless flights, new experiences, and opportunities. Since then, I’ve truly been “flying high” (no pun intended), thanks to the countless opportunities the event world continues to offer.
