India’s LED industry is witnessing unprecedented growth, fueled by urbanisation, real estate development, and the push for energy-efficient solutions. At the forefront of this transformation is Corvi LED, a homegrown company with cutting-edge innovations and sustainability-focused practices. In an exclusive conversation with Bizz Buzz, Vimal Soni, Founder of Corvi LED, shared insights into the industry's trajectory, highlighting premiumisation and sustainability as defining trends. “Consumers today seek products that marry style with efficiency, and LEDs, with their cost-saving and eco-friendly benefits, perfectly fit the bill,” Soni said.
Corvi’s recent $8 million funding round is set to propel its ambitious growth plans, from enhancing R&D to expanding retail and distribution networks. Notable among its offerings is the Bulb9 Smart, a compact, energy-efficient smart bulb designed to reduce carbon footprints and plastic usage. With a vision for innovation and a commitment to sustainability, Corvi is positioning itself as a leader in India’s LED market
How would you describe the current state of the LED industry in India, and what major trends are shaping its future?
India's LED industry is in a phase of rapid expansion, driven by urbanization, growing real estate development, and increasing demand for sustainable, energy-efficient lighting. Premiumisation is a key trend, with consumers seeking aesthetically superior products that balance style with functionality. Sustainability is at the forefront, as LEDs offer lower energy consumption and a reduced environmental footprint. The cost-saving benefits, particularly for electricity, make them an attractive investment for households and businesses.
Government initiatives, such as the UJALA scheme and the Make in India campaign, have further accelerated this growth by promoting local manufacturing and incentivizing energy-efficient infrastructure. These efforts are aligning the industry with national sustainability goals, strengthening domestic production, and setting the stage for future innovation and expansion.
With the Ujala scheme incentivizing domestic production, how feasible do you think it is for India to become a net exporter of LED products?
The UJALA scheme has made LED lighting accessible and affordable, significantly boosting market penetration. However, becoming a net exporter requires a broader approach. At Corvi, we've successfully navigated challenges by leveraging R&D to create cost-effective, high-quality products.
To achieve export dominance, India needs to establish a robust ecosystem—ensuring a stable supply of raw materials, fostering local component manufacturing, and building a skilled workforce. Continued government support through incentives and infrastructure development is crucial. If these factors align, India has the potential to transition from a major consumer to a global leader in LED exports.
Corvi recently closed an $8 million funding round. How will this boost Corvi’s capacity to achieve the growth targets you’ve set?
The $8 million funding from ENAM investments will be instrumental in driving our growth strategy. A significant portion will go toward enhancing our R&D capabilities, allowing us to innovate and develop advanced, energy-efficient LED solutions. We’re also expanding our retail presence and strengthening our distribution network to increase market reach and brand visibility. This investment will support our goal of 200 per cent sales revenue growth and expanding our distributor base, positioning Corvi for sustained leadership in the LED market.
Can you share more about the new products Corvi plans to launch and how these align with current consumer demands for energy-efficient and sustainable solutions?
Corvi is set to launch innovative products that cater to the demand for energy efficiency and sustainability. We have recently launched one of the most energy efficient smart bulbs, “Bulb9 Smart” which is 50 per cent smaller than traditional models, more luminous than normal bulbs, reducing plastic usage and increasing energy savings. Despite its compact size, it delivers 150 per cent more brightness at the same power consumption, making it highly efficient.
We’re also introducing a smart bulb controlled through the Corvi Smart Home app, supporting smart home integration. This range will cater to residential and commercial needs, aligning with modern consumer expectations for sustainable, connected solutions.
Corvi’s products are designed to reduce carbon footprints and have a lifespan of over 50 years. Could you elaborate on the sustainable practices you incorporate in product design and manufacturing?
Sustainability is embedded in our design philosophy. Our LEDs consume less energy, reducing carbon footprints, and their 50-year lifespan minimizes waste and replacements. We use fewer materials in manufacturing, reducing plastic and environmental impact. Each stage of our process—from design to production—focuses on efficiency, ensuring we meet high environmental standards while delivering superior performance.
What specific advantages does India hold over other countries as an LED manufacturing hub, and what areas still need improvement to enhance competitiveness?
India's strengths lie in its large, cost-effective workforce, robust MSME sector, and vast domestic market. However, there’s a need to invest in skill development and strengthen local component manufacturing. Supporting MSMEs and fostering a cohesive ecosystem will enhance competitiveness. Promoting “Made in India” products domestically and internationally is crucial for reducing imports and positioning India as a global manufacturing leader.
As Corvi grows into a major force in the industry, what are the most significant challenges you foresee, and how do you plan to address them?
Scaling production, managing supply chains, and maintaining quality are key challenges. We plan to invest in automation and efficient processes to enhance capacity and reduce costs. Strengthening supplier relationships will ensure a stable component supply. Our focus on R&D will maintain our competitive edge in innovation and sustainability.
Supporting our distributors is a top priority. We invest in their success through training and wellness initiatives, creating a strong, knowledgeable network. This holistic approach ensures sustainable growth and solidifies Corvi's leadership position in the long term and a thriving ecosystem that will support Corvi’s growth in the long term.
