Raids at Lulu hypermarket in Kukatpally and the JNTU canteen: Watch video

The Food Safety Department's task force conducted raids on Lulu Hypermarket in Kukatpally and the JNTU Canteen, uncovering significant violations during inspections held on Wednesday, June 26.

Violations at Lulu Hypermarket, Kukatpally:

Inspectors discovered multiple infractions at the Lulu Hypermarket, including infested items in the bakery section and expired food products, which were promptly discarded. Additionally, the updated copy of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license was not visibly displayed at the entrance. Concerns were also raised about the presence of houseflies near the meat storage area. The Food Safety Commissioner of Telangana stated that a notice would be issued with further actions pending.

JNTU Canteen:

At the JNTU Canteen, operated by Sri Sri Caters, inspectors found serious lapses in hygiene standards. Food handlers were observed without proper headgear, aprons, and gloves. Semi-prepared food items and cut vegetables were inadequately labeled and left exposed. The kitchen premises were deemed unhygienic, with food waste directly disposed on the floor. Moreover, the kitchen lacked essential insect-proof screens, and the door did not effectively prevent pests from entering. The canteen was also found to possess an outdated FSSAI license. Records pertaining to medical fitness of staff and pest control measures were not readily available.

Authorities have indicated that corrective measures will be enforced, emphasizing the need for adherence to food safety regulations to safeguard public health.
