Microsoft Updates Recall Feature for Better Security

Tech giant Microsoft has shared updates for its AI feature called Recall, which tracks what users do on their computers.

These updates come after worries about security and possible hacking.

David Weston, a security expert at Microsoft, said the company is making improvements based on user feedback.

The new version allows users to exclude specific apps or websites from tracking.

It will also automatically filter out sensitive data, including Social Security numbers and credit card information. Also, any private browsing sessions in supported apps will not be saved.

To access Recall, users need to log in using biometric methods like facial recognition or fingerprint scanning. The data collected will be stored securely, and only the information the user wants can leave that safe space.

Recall creates a timeline of activities on your PC by taking snapshots of the screen.

After Recall was announced, some experts warned it could be a target for hackers. Microsoft decided that Recall will be turned off by default on its AI-branded PCs, so users must choose to turn it on.

The updated version will encrypt sensitive data.

This means that if a computer is stolen or gets a virus, hackers can’t access the information.

Users will need to use their fingerprints or face to unlock it.

Recall will close by itself after 15 minutes of not being used, but users can change this time.

The new version will be ready for testing next month and will work on new Windows 11 computers.

It won’t automatically install on business computers, but companies can choose to download it.
