Apple Inc., headquartered in California, has officially classified three of its iconic products as "vintage." According to the latest update to Apple's vintage and obsolete products list reported by MacRumors, these products include the iPhone X, first-generation AirPods, and the original HomePod.

Definition of Vintage

Apple categorizes a product as vintage when it has been out of the sales market for more than five years but less than seven years. Products classified as vintage remain eligible for repairs, subject to parts availability. Once a product surpasses seven years off the market, it transitions to obsolete status, meaning it is no longer supported for hardware services.

Key Products and Their Impact

The iPhone X, introduced in 2017, was notable for pioneering features such as an edge-to-edge OLED display and Face ID, marking a departure from the traditional Home button.

First-generation AirPods, launched alongside the iPhone 7 in 2016, represented a significant shift towards wireless earbuds, eliminating the headphone jack and paving the way for Apple's expanding lineup of wireless headphones.

The original HomePod, unveiled at WWDC 2017 and released in early 2018, despite its discontinuation in March 2021, made a comeback with a new model in January 2023.

Significance of Vintage Designation

These vintage classifications underscore the historical impact of these products on Apple's product evolution and their influence within the broader tech industry.

Future Developments

Meanwhile, Apple is poised to introduce advanced artificial intelligence features to the Apple Vision Pro, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. These enhancements, initially slated for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, are now also expected to extend to the Vision Pro mixed reality headset, potentially arriving in early 2025 with visionOS 3.
