Everyone Should be a Part of Cleanliness: Governor

Hyderabad: State Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Friday said cleanliness was everyone's responsibility and added that that cleanliness was possible only with the participation of the people.

The Governor participated in a programme organised at Indira Nagar Colony in Khairatabad on Friday as part of the Swachhta Ki Bhagidari programme. He first visited Indiranagar colony and inspected the condition of the colony and sanitation management.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said, “Our home, our basti, our village, our State, our country should be clean and safe. We have our rights as well as responsibilities and everyone should contribute towards a clean and secure society. Plastic should not be used and the future will be better only if it is completely banned. Only when we do our work will we get the support of the government. Everyone should have a complete understanding of cleanliness.”

He also said self-service should be done through cleanliness service and added that cleanliness was a part of the service of the nation. He said the cleanliness drive was necessary for the development of the society and added that the need to clean and keep it clean was for all. He urged them to spread awareness from one person to another on cleanliness and make everyone aware. "If Indiranagar colony is beautified with purity, the people of the colony will be safe,” he said. The Governor asked Indira colony to be a guide for other bastis and urged everyone to cooperate for it.

Principal Secretary Burra Venkatesham said the Governor had adopted Indira Nagar colony to ensure that the colony, which is very close to the Raj Bhavan and the Secretariat, was developed as a clean colony. “Necessary steps will be taken to develop every house in the colony along with the cleanliness of the colony. From the Governor's office, NSS volunteers will come from door-to-door in Indira Nagar colony to find out what are the problems, collect details on the family's status and take necessary steps to develop every house in the direction of how it can be developed. In the next six months, the face of the colony should change and it should be another name for cleanliness,” he said and asked the residents of the colony to work in that direction.

Corporator Vijaya Reddy said she was happy that the Governor was coming for the cleanliness drive and added that after the cleanliness drive, there would be a lot of awareness among the people and change. She thanked the GHMC for its efforts towards cleanliness. Earlier, the Governor administered a cleanliness pledge to everyone. The volunteers performed a flash mob performance.
