Hyderabad: BJP MP Etela Rajender today said it should be remembered that officers would be in service for 35 years unlike politicians, who will be in power only for five years.

On Friday, the MP toured Kothapeta, Sathyanagar, Phanigiri colony, Janapriya Apartments and other areas and held a meeting with those who are losing their houses in the name of Musi beautification project. Speaking on the occasion, he said “if the officers listened to the orders of the higher authorities, ignore the people and the laws and demolish the houses of the poor, they would be jailed." He warned that he would not tolerate those who harass the poor.

“The government is demolishing the houses of the poor on Saturdays and Sundays like thieves as they fear that the affected people might approach court if their houses are demolished on week days. If you want to increase the depth of the Musi river, the government should construct a wall.’

He said all the ponds in the city were contaminated with drainage water. He also said the rule of former CM KCR, who had promised to transform the water or Hussain Sagar lake into coconut water, ended without doing anything for 10 years. “It's easy to say words, but, it is difficult to do it in action,” he said. He recalled that small business men constructed houses with their hard-earned money and with permission of the government.

“Today, the government has demolished the structures in the name of FTL and buffer zones. Why did the government come with the police like their jagir and threaten them and mark the houses,” he asked. He said earlier the government had told them that they were not demolishing houses anywhere and not harassing the poor people. “If you look at it, there is no match between what was said and what you are doing now,” he alleged.

He said the then Congress government had given pattas to these houses and added that the poor had built those houses. “Union Minister Kishan Reddy had also written a letter to CM Revanth Reddy to stop the drama in the name of Hydraa. The State government has no value for Central ministers, MPs, MLAs and other public representatives and even for the poor," he alleged. Stating that he has seen many CMs and governments in the past, he said at that time, at least there was a way of listening to the problems of the people. He had promised that he would stand by everyone.
