Vijay, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Allu Arjun among top taxpaying celebrities

Mumbai: The fiscal year 2024 saw significant contributions from India’s top celebrities in terms of income tax payments. These figures reflect not only their substantial earnings, but also their influence and standing in their respective fields. A report, compiled by Rediffusion, has delved into the tax contributions of these celebrities, offering insights into their financial stature and the impact they have on the Indian economy.

Talking to Bizz Buzz, Sandeep Goyal, Chairman, Rediffusion, says: “It is good to see that our celebrities conscientiously pay their taxes like ordinary mortals do! Interesting to see that the numbers could compare well with top corporate head honchos.”

The income-tax figures of Ranveer Singh, his wife Deepika Padukone and other celebrities like Alia Bhat, Akshay Kumar and Rohit Sharma are not readily available, but it can be safely assumed that they too would be part of this elite list of high taxpayers. 



The ‘King of Bollywood’ continues to reign supreme, not just at the box office, but also in his contributions to the national exchequer. Shah Rukh Khan’s impressive Rs92 crore tax payment reflects his sustained dominance in the film industry, where his every move seems to turn to gold.

South Indian cinema’s beloved superstar, Vijay, known for his massive fan following and blockbuster films, has made his mark on the tax charts. His Rs80 crore contribution highlights the growing influence and economic power of regional cinema in India.

The ‘Bhai’ of Bollywood, Salman Khan, known for his larger-than-life roles and philanthropy, has also made a significant contribution with Rs75 crore.

The ‘Evergreen Superstar’ Amitabh Bachchan, with a career spanning over five decades, continues to be a dominant force. His Rs71 crore tax contribution is a testament to his ongoing relevance and the respect he commands across generations.

‘King Kohli’ emerged as the highest taxpaying sportsperson in India for FY24, with a staggering Rs66 crore. Kohli’s dedication on the field is mirrored commitment off the field, too, making him a true icon both in sports and as a citizen.

Bollywood’s action hero and versatile actor Ajay Devgn has also made a significant mark, contributing Rs42 crore.

Former Indian cricket captain and legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni continues to lead by example, paying Rs38 crore in taxes.

The ‘Heartthrob of Bollywood’, Ranbir Kapoor paid Rs36 crore in taxes.

The ‘God of Cricket,’ Sachin Tendulkar, though retired, continues to be a top contributor with Rs28 crore.

‘Comedy King’ Kapil Sharma, who has made millions laugh with his wit, made a serious contribution of Rs26 crore.

Former cricketer and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who once led India to many a cricketing victory, has also made a mark on the tax charts with Rs23 crore.

The ‘Bebo’ of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor, continues to be a leading lady in every sense. Her Rs20 crore tax payment underscored her status as one of the most bankable stars in the industry.

Shahid Kapoor, with his versatile performances and growing list of accolades, contributed Rs14 crore. Malayalam cinema’s stalwart Mohanlal has paid Rs14 crore, reflecting the clout of South Indian cinema.

The ‘Stylish Star’ Allu Arjun, who has taken Telugu cinema to new heights, also contributed Rs14 crore.

The dynamic cricketer Hardik Pandya, known for his all-round performances, made a significant mark with Rs13 crore in taxes. Rising star Kiara Advani, who has quickly become a household name, paid Rs12 crore.

Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif, with her consistent box-office success, contributed Rs11 crore.

Character actor par excellence, Pankaj Tripathi, known for his unforgettable roles, made a solid contribution of Rs11 crore.

The ‘Perfectionist’ of Bollywood, Aamir Khan, contributed Rs10 crore, showing that even with selective projects, he remains one of the top earners in the industry. The young and talented cricketer Rishabh Pant has also made it to the list with Rs10 crore in taxes.
