Nationwide Healthcare Disruption Following Kolkata Doctor's Tragic Death

India's healthcare services are severely impacted due to a nationwide strike called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in response to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a Kolkata hospital.

The strike began at 6 am on Saturday and will continue until Sunday, with routine OPD services and elective surgeries halted. Emergency services remain operational.

In Delhi, major hospitals including Guru Teg Bahadur, Ram Manohar Lohia, DDU, and AIIMS have suspended OPD services.

In Jharkhand, both government and private hospitals are participating, and a protest march is planned in Ranchi. Assam Medical College and Hospital in the Northeast is holding a sit-in protest.

Chennai’s doctors have organized a boycott, affecting outpatient services across government and private hospitals. In West Bengal, medical services are disrupted as doctors join the strike.

The IMA's Chandigarh unit has suspended OPD services and will hold a protest march. Bengaluru will see over 1,000 doctors participating in a demonstration at the IMA office.

This strike underscores the medical community's outrage and calls for justice and improved safety following the recent tragedy.
