‘Modi&US’ Event in Long Island to Celebrate Indian Culture and Diaspora

The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York, is preparing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diaspora event, ‘Modi&US,’ with nearly 14,000 attendees expected.

Organiser Jagdish Sehwani described the event as a celebration of the cultural ethos that Indians carry worldwide, emphasising unity and diversity.

Around 13,200 participants will represent India’s diverse cultural landscape, along with over 500 Welcome Partners, 500 artists and performers, 350 volunteers, and more than 150 media professionals from over 40 US states.

The programme, titled “Echoes of India: A Journey of Art and Tradition,” will feature performances on two stages.

The main stage will host 382 renowned artists, including Grammy nominee Chandrika Tandon and STAR Voice of India winner Aishwarya Majumdar.

The outer stage will showcase 117 artists performing a mix of classical, folk, modern, and fusion styles.

With over 5.1 million Indians in the US, the diaspora boasts a high educational attainment.

Indian Americans significantly contribute to US taxes, scientific research, and philanthropy, with their cuisine thriving in around 6,000 restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide.

The event is organised by the Indo American Community of USA (IACU), which aims to enhance understanding within the Indian-American community while supporting educational and health initiatives in India and beyond.

IACU is the east coast chapter of the Indo American Community of West Coast USA (IACWC), which previously hosted Modi in San Jose in 2015.
