Amaravati: With the rain situation improving, many heaved a sigh of relief and life has started limping back to normalcy slowly in flood-hit NTR and Krishna districts of Andhra Pradesh. Food packets were distributed by helicopters and drones as several areas still continued to be under a sheet of water.

The government engaged four helicopters, a Dornier aircraft and several drones to carry out the distribution of relief material and food packets as part of succour to the rain victims.

Massive relief and restoration works are also continuing in full swing directly under the supervision of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who scoffed at YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for trying to, what he said, politicising a calamity.

He also appealed to all to contribute liberally to help the flood-affected people and to repair damaged roads and other infrastructure.

Because of the heavy rains 17-deaths resulted in Andhra Pradesh with major disruptions in normal life affecting an estimated 2.76 lakh people alone in Vijayawada area.

As many as 26 NDRF teams and 21 SDRF teams were deployed for rescue operations. Despite efforts to restore train services, many trains running between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad and Vijayawada to Tirupati and Chennai were either terminated/short-terminated or diverted.

As result of unexpected heavy floods waters inundated many areas in central constituency of Vijayawada, areas abutting the city’s Budameru canal submerged in floodwaters. Many areas in Vijayawada were submerged in the aftermath of heavy rains that lashed NTR and Krishna districts. Flood waters from the overflowing Budameru canal engulfed New Rajarajeswari Peta, Ajit Singh Nagar, Prakash Nagar, Pipul Road, Devi Nagar, Rayanapadu, Chittinagar, Jakkampudi, Pala Factory, Mamidi Pakalu and in some of the other areas.
