The DEEP initiative is designed to support consumers in achieving energy efficiency by introducing market-transforming technologies. It aligns with BEE’s Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) scheme, enabling industries to meet their Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) reduction targets - Dr Ashok Kumar, Deputy DG, Bureau of Energy Efficiency

Vijayawada: In a significant move aimed at advancing energy efficiency in industries, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, has taken a major initiative in collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of public sector undertakings.

This partnership will spearhead the Demonstration of Energy Efficiency Projects (DEEP) initiative, which is considered to be the largest demonstration/pilot project focusing on the deployment of innovative global technologies to transform energy use in industrial sectors. Notably, BEE and EESL have selected three pilot projects out of seven in the Southern States.

The highlight of this pilot program is that the entire expenditure will be borne by the Union Government through the BEE.

During a webinar discussing the impact, significance, and future course of action, Dr Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director General (DDG) of BEE, who heads a joint technical committee comprising members from BEE, EESL, and sectoral experts, discussed the initiative with Secretary Milind Deora, Directors Sunil Khandare, SK Varma, Abhishek Sarma, Ravi

Prajapati, Ajay Tripathi (Media), as well as Animesh Mishra (CGM), Girija Shanker (GM), and executives from EESL, including Nitin Bhatt, Adesh, and Mukund Kumar, to gather their views.

Dr Ashok Kumar and Secretary Milind Deora also appreciated Vishal Kapoor, CEO, EESL, for his timely support in selecting Designated Consumers (DCs) on a scientific basis for implementing the DEEP project in the industrial sector to meet global standards.

The DEEP initiative is designed to support DCs in achieving energy efficiency by introducing market-transforming technologies. It aligns with BEE’s Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) scheme, enabling industries to meet their Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) reduction targets, which significantly contribute to national energy savings, said Dr Ashok Kumar.

BEE and EESL aim to implement cutting-edge energy solutions to help industries meet their SEC targets while driving market transformation for innovative energy technologies.
