Meet Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh, the new MD of SBI

Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh is all set to become the new managing director (MD) of the country’s largest lender, State Bank of India. The position has been vacated by the superannuation of Alok Choudhary on June 30. The successor’s name was recommended by the Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB).
"After interviewing 16 candidates on April 23 and April 24 and considering their performance, overall experience, and existing criteria, the bureau has endorsed Kumar's candidacy for the MD role," stated FSIB.
The final call will be made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Singh is currently serving as the Deputy Managing Director (Retail – Personal Banking & Real Estate) at SBI’s corporate office. He had started his journey with the bank as a probationary officer on August 1, 1991. Over the years, Singh has held diverse roles across various locations within the bank.
Throughout his career, Singh has played pivotal roles in retail banking, credit, human resources and international banking. He has served as the CEO of the bank’s Frankfurt branch.
Singh is a certified associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers and holds an MBA (PGEMP) from the SP Jain Institute of Management & Research in Mumbai. He has participated in leadership development programmes at esteemed institutions like Harvard Business School, Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, and Stanford Graduate Business School.
