AP aims to become India’s largest solar power developer
The state govt has set a target to have the world's largest integrated renewable energy storage project with an installed capacity of 4230 MW and storage capacity of 10 GWh

Visakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh has unveiled a plan to become the largest solar power developer in the country by making use of immense potential for increasing renewable energy production.
AP Solar Power Corporation Private Limited (APSPCl), a joint venture of Government of AP and the Government of India is keen on working in tandem with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to encourage establishment of solar energy parks with a capacity of at least 500 MW by doling out sops.
AP Government has already decided to buy 7,000 MW of solar power from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) at the rate of Rs 2.49 per unit. As per the schedule, 3,000 MW will be made available in September next year and subsequently 1,000 MW each in the second and third phases in September, 2025 and exactly a year later, Minister for Power Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy said.
As the Discoms are mandated to supply interrupted power supply to the farm sector as promised with an annual subsidy of over Rs 8,400 crore and the power demand is increasing slowly, the authorities have stepped up efforts to increase power availability from all available sources, a senior official said.
Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park is considered the largest project so far in solar power generation spread over nearly 6,000 acres in Panyam mandal in Kurnool district with a capacity of 1,000 MW at a cost of Rs 7,000 crore by the project proponents with the support of Central and State governments.
Dr M Kamalakar Babu, speaking at the Green Hydrogen Summit being conducted by Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy here said the State government formulated the Green Hydrogen Policy in June, 2023 and committed to transform Visakhapatnam as a hydrogen city with IIPE-Visakhapatnam playing the lead role. He said as part of the focus on renewable energy, there is a lot of demand for optimising generation of solar power.
Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has set a plan to increase its solar power generation capacity from 10 MW to 30 MW by 2030, its Chairman Dr Madhaiyan Angamauthu told Bizz Buzz.
