Hyderabad: Sri City, an integrated business hub, observed World Environment Day on Wednesday at its premises. The event was observed under the theme, ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,’ with the slogan, ‘Our Land, Our Future.’ The event, coordinated by Madhusudana Reddy, Head - Horticulture department, welcomed chief guests, G Jaya Prasada Rao, Forest Range Officer, Satyavedu, and Prof William James, Apiculturist, Chennai.

The event began with planting of saplings, post which the guests explored the nursery, checking out the bee boxes that were recently added. Jaya Prasada Rao highlighted the significance of World Environment Day as a catalyst for environmental protection, awareness and action. He commended Sri City’s green initiatives, and called upon the local community to engage in tree planting activities, an official release from Sri City said.

Professor William James emphasised the crucial role of honey bees in the environment and food production, stressing the importance of safeguarding these essential pollinators. He advocated for eco-friendly practices such as preserving bee habitats, minimising chemical use, providing water sources, and promoting local plant life. These measures are key to maintaining healthy bee population, and a balanced ecosystem, he said.

Dr Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director, Sri City, in a message, announced his plan for a two-acre pollinator park to support butterflies, honeybees, birds, and insects, underlining the importance of pollinator conservation.
