The Food Safety Department's task force team has announced legal action against Alpha Hotel near Secunderabad railway station for obstructing officials during an inspection.
This marks the hotel's second violation of quality standards upon inspection.
"The FBO hindered food safety officials during inspection and declined to sign the report," stated the department, citing clause 62 of the FSS Act 2006, which allows for penalties of up to three months' imprisonment and fines up to Rs 1 lakh.
The inspection uncovered improper storage of raw meat and semi-prepared foods in the refrigerator, posing a risk of cross-contamination.
Additionally, unhygienic conditions such as open dustbins and ceiling plaster flakes were observed.
Alpha brand ice cream and bread packets were found without manufacturing dates and batch numbers, and the kitchen lacked proper insect-proof screening.
Despite these violations, the hotel prominently displayed its FSSAI license, and food handlers were seen wearing head caps and aprons.
The department posted information about violations on social media.
Additionally, the task force team conducted inspections in the Secunderabad area on June 18, 2024.
