Lakshya Sen has moved closer to a historic Olympic medal, becoming the first Indian male shuttler to reach the semifinals with a dramatic three-game victory over Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chen at the Paris Games on Friday.

The 22-year-old from Almora, who won bronze at the 2021 World Championships, displayed exceptional skill and composure to win 19-21, 21-15, 21-12 against the world number 11.

Sen, the current Commonwealth Games champion, will face either Loh Kean Yew of Singapore or Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the semifinals.Lakshya Sen Advances to Olympic Semifinals

In the Olympics, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal are the only Indian women to have progressed past the quarterfinals in singles.

In men's singles, Parupalli Kashyap and Kidambi Srikanth reached the quarterfinals in the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Games, respectively.
