Telangana government on Tuesday issued an ordinance to expand the limits of Hyderabad to Outer Ring Road (ORR).

According to the ordinance, a total of 51 outlying gram panchayats will be merged with nearby municipalities in Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Sangareddy districts.

The ordinance was issued, on the recommendation of the Cabinet's sub-committee, to create a proper administration structure within the ORR.

Pudur and Railapur gram panchayats will be merged with the Medchal municipality.

Keesara, Thimmaipally, Yadgarpally, Ankireddypally, Cheeryal, and Narsampally gram panchayats will be merged with the Dammaiguda municipality.

Kardanoor, Pocharam, Paati, Ghanapur, and Muthangi gram panchayats will be merged with the Tellapur municipality.

Ilapur, Ilapur Thanda, Kistareddypet, Sulthanpur, Patelguda, and Dayara gram panchayats will be merged into Ameenpur municipality.

The Cabinet sub-committee included Telangana ministers such as Sridhar Babu, Damodar Rajanarsimha, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Danasari Anasuya Seethakka.

Earlier, the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) suggested a merger of 45 gram panchayats but later on, another six gram panchayats were added.

The merger was planned by the Congress government to expand the GHMC by merging seven municipal corporations and 30 municipalities to form the Hyderabad Greater City Corporation (HGCC).

Given the government’s mega-city plans, the government has decided to appoint special officers for these corporations and municipalities after January 2025.
