Telangana Celebrates Bathukamma Festival with Joy and Tradition

The state festival of Bathukamma began in Telangana with great joy and traditional celebrations on Wednesday.

This festival, which is a symbol of Telangana culture, is celebrated by women for nine days, during which they worship nature. Women and girls gather to sing and dance around beautifully arranged flowers.

At the end of the festival, they immerse the flower arrangements, called Bathukamma, in local ponds.

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy shared their greetings with the people of Telangana.

The Governor conveyed wishes to all the women in the state. He further said it is a sacred celebration of life and feminine energy, showcasing the creativity and prayers of women who seek the blessings of Goddess Gauri.

He noted that the colourful wildflowers used to create Bathukamma idols are gifts from nature, which also have medicinal properties that help cleanse water bodies filled with monsoon rains.

He emphasised that Bathukamma is a time for families to reunite, as daughters return to their ancestral homes to participate in the nine-day celebration, offering prayers and songs in honour of Goddess Gauri.

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy also wished the women a joyful Bathukamma festival.

He underscored the importance of the occasion where women celebrate nature and worship flowers, and encouraged everyone to celebrate with joy and enthusiasm.

Revanth further noted that the Bathukamma festival reflects the unity of life, as people share their joys and struggles with one another.

He prayed to the "Gauramma" deity to bring light and ease the hardships of the people in the state.

Revath stated that the festivities, filled with singing and dancing, showcase the uniqueness of the villages.

Since the formation of Telangana in 2014, Bathukamma has been celebrated as the state festival.
