Seasonal Diseases on Rise in Hyderabad

Seasonal illnesses in some of the areas in Hyderabad have soared in August 2024 as compared to July. Seasonal illnesses have surged by 30 percnet, according to a report by the Helping Hand Foundation (HHF).
West, South, and peri-urban slum areas of Hyderabad have witnessed a majority rise in illnesses.
The Helping Hand Foundation registered 60,683 outpatient visits in August across its 12 free primary healthcare clinics.
Rains, waterlogging, lack of sanitation efforts, and overflowing drains are the major reasons for the rise in seasonal diseases.
Around 38.5 percent of the cases were due to infectious diseases, as reported by HHF, while 32 per cent of infections were due to viral fevers, coupled with body aches.
Similarly, upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) accounted for 28.7 percent of infections.
Some of the other diseases registered include acute gastroenteritis, enteric fever, and dengue.
The dengue is expected to rise further with the prevalent monsoon season.

Children Age
1-10 years - Made up for 28 per cent of the cases.
11-17 - Accounted for 14 per cent of cases.
Adults - Accounted for 48 per cent of cases.
Around 12 per cent (2,915 patients) needed daycare or inpatient services.

The HHF has clinics established at Kalapather, Shaheen Nagar, and Hakeempet, among others.
In the last month, a total of 40.85 lakh was spent by these clinics to offer treatment to patients.
