The long-awaited construction of the new Osmania General Hospital officially began on Friday with the groundbreaking ceremony at Goshamahal Stadium. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy led the ceremony, marking a significant step toward enhancing the healthcare infrastructure of Telangana. The new facility, designed with modern features, will be a major upgrade from the current Osmania Hospital located in Afzalganj.

The state government has committed to building the hospital on a sprawling 26.30-acre plot, with a total construction area of 32 lakh square feet. The project, estimated to cost Rs 2,700 crore, will see the establishment of eight blocks across 14 floors. This initiative is aimed at providing cutting-edge medical services to residents of Telangana, as well as neighboring states, for the next century.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti, along with Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, was also present at the ceremony, reflecting the importance of the project to the state government. The new hospital will house facilities comparable to corporate hospitals, with special attention given to the needs of patients and medical staff alike.

The hospital’s design includes state-of-the-art operating theaters, diagnostic centers, and post-operative care facilities. Each department will be equipped with specialized operation theaters, ICU wards, and dedicated units for organ transplants. The ground floor will feature comprehensive diagnostic services, while two underground levels will provide parking for patients and visitors.

The government has placed a strong emphasis on accessibility, with wide roads and ramps to assist disabled individuals, as well as fire stations and easy access for emergency services. In addition to medical facilities, the hospital will include dormitories, canteens, and restrooms to accommodate both patients and their families.

Construction plans have been designed to ensure that the hospital will continue to meet the demands of future healthcare needs, serving a population of over 2,000 beds and becoming a hub for medical education and training. The project is expected to be a cornerstone for the healthcare system in Telangana, enhancing the region’s medical services for years to come.

The new Osmania General Hospital, which will replace the century-old facility, is set to be a landmark in the city’s healthcare landscape. The government’s vision is to create a hospital capable of addressing the medical needs of Telangana, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka in the coming decades.
