Hyderabad Tragedy: Young Researcher Ends Life Over Harassment for Father’s Debts
A heartbreaking incident in Hyderabad has come to light, where a research scholar, Pulivarthi Deepthi (28), took her own life after facing relentless harassment from a police constable and his wife over unpaid debts allegedly incurred by her father. The tragic event has prompted the Nacharam police to register a case and initiate an investigation against the accused.
Victim Harassed Over Father's Debts
Deepthi, a project assistant at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) in Habsiguda, was the daughter of Sangeetha Rao, a retired IICT employee. According to reports, Sangeetha Rao had borrowed ₹15 lakhs from a police constable, Bella Anil, promising to secure a job for Anil's wife, Anita, at IICT. However, after failing to fulfill his promise and retiring, Sangeetha Rao disappeared, leaving the debt unpaid.
Anil and his wife Anita allegedly began pressuring Deepthi to repay the amount, despite her repeated claims that she had no involvement in the transaction and had been estranged from her father. Ignoring her pleas, the couple filed a cheating case against Deepthi and her father at the Nacharam police station and also pursued a civil suit to recover their money.
Suicide and Recorded Evidence
Unable to bear the humiliation and legal troubles, Deepthi took the extreme step on Wednesday night, hanging herself in her residence at Bapujinagar Saraswati Colony. In a selfie video recorded before her death, Deepthi accused Anil, Anita, and her father of being responsible for her tragic end. She expressed her despair over the false accusations, financial hardships, and the social stigma she faced, which led her to the decision.
“I don’t have the resources to fight this battle anymore,” she lamented in the video. She urged authorities to hold the responsible parties accountable and ensure justice for her suffering.
Police Action
Based on Deepthi’s video and her mother’s statement, the Nacharam police have registered a case against Anil, Anita, and others implicated in the incident. The accused have reportedly been arrested as the investigation unfolds.
This tragedy highlights the devastating impact of financial disputes and the importance of addressing such issues with empathy and fairness.
