India’s rapid economic growth has led to a significant rise in the number of billionaires, shaping the country’s business landscape. According to the Hurun Rich List 2024, Mumbai continues to be India’s billionaire capital, followed by Delhi and Hyderabad. The growing concentration of ultra-wealthy individuals in these cities reflects their economic strength and global influence.

India’s Rise as an Economic Powerhouse

India was once known for widespread poverty, but today, it stands as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. This transformation has been driven by industrial growth, technological advancements, and a new class of billionaires who invest in various sectors, create jobs, and contribute to national development.

The Hurun Research Institute, known for its annual rich lists, has identified the top 10 Indian cities with the most billionaires in 2024. Here’s the breakdown:

Mumbai: The Billionaire Hub

Mumbai remains the undisputed financial hub of India, housing 92 billionaires. The city has even surpassed Beijing in terms of the number of billionaires, making it one of the wealthiest cities globally.

Comparing the data from the Hurun Rich List 2023, Mumbai has consistently held its top spot. The overall increase in billionaire count across major Indian cities highlights India’s growing wealth accumulation and business expansion.

Billionaire Growth Over the Years

Since 2020, Mumbai has witnessed a significant surge in billionaires, rising from 217 rich-list entries to 386 in just four years. Similarly, Delhi has seen an increase from 128 to 217 entries, with 68 qualifying as billionaires. Hyderabad has also seen growth, with its count rising from 50 to 104 entries, 18 of whom are billionaires.
