Amarapali Kata suggested covering pits with stagnant water amid prevailing chikungunya cases.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will begin a new project on October 3 to stop chikungunya outbreaks.
They will do this by carrying out anti-larvae operations. GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata has asked officials to check areas all over Greater Hyderabad.
Commissioner Kata underscored the importance of anti-larval treatments and fogging in neighborhoods where chikungunya cases have been reported, focusing on 50-100 homes in those locations.
GHMC officials will also visit locked residences, construction sites, function halls, and vacant plots. Besides, they will also educate members of the respective Resident Welfare Associations regarding preventive measures against chikungunya.
The commissioner said it is important to run an awareness campaign to help residents remove stagnant water from storage tanks, drums, and coolers. She also suggested throwing away empty coconut shells and tires.
Amarapali Kata suggested covering pits with stagnant water, introducing oil balls into contaminated water, and releasing Gambusia fish in freshwater bodies.
Moreover, officials are instructed to conduct anti-larvae operations in apartments and cellars.
They will also collect information about chikungunya patients, including their addresses, and make sure this information is recorded in both government and private hospitals.
GHMC plans to start large entomology programs to effectively control chikungunya in the area.
