A massive fire broke out in Abbas Towers, a well-known shopping hub in the Charminar area, during the early hours of Monday. Firefighters struggled for hours to contain the blaze, which severely damaged the building. Authorities have now decided to demolish the structure to prevent further risks.

According to Fire Department Officer Venkanna, the building lacked fire safety mechanisms, making it difficult for emergency teams to bring the situation under control. Despite deploying 15 fire engines, the teams faced challenges in accessing the building due to its congested structure. Thousands of sarees and garments stored inside fueled the flames, further intensifying the situation. Officials confirmed that the fourth-floor slab cracked due to the intense heat, increasing the risk of collapse.

The fire posed a potential threat to adjacent commercial and residential buildings. However, authorities managed to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby establishments. With Abbas Towers now deemed structurally unsafe, officials are making arrangements to demolish the building in a controlled manner to avoid any further danger to the surrounding area.

Abbas Towers housed 40 to 50 shops dealing in wholesale and retail clothing, attracting customers not only from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh but also from other states. Charminar is a major shopping destination, particularly known for sarees, clothing, and pearls. Many shoppers visit the area for special occasions, making Abbas Towers a key commercial center.
