Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy on Monday said his government would transform Hyderabad into one of the world’s greatest cities.
Speaking after inaugurating US-based biotech major Amgen’s new technology and innovation site in the city, the Chief Minister shared his vision of positioning Telangana as the best ‘China Plus One’ destination. He was referring to the strategy of global businesses diversifying manufacturing and supply chains beyond China in the post Covid world.
Recalling his visit to Amgen’s R&D Centre in the United States last year, the Chief Minister said he saw the company’s great commitment to scientific innovation, transforming lives through research, innovation in medicines and biotechnology.
Telangana has been a pioneer in life sciences, pharma and biotech sectors and some of the largest pharma companies are based in Hyderabad, he pointed out.
Extended a warm welcome to Amgen, Reddy expressed confidence that Hyderabad will not just serve as another site but evolve into a critical global hub for the company. He emphasised Hyderabad’s wealth of talent across life sciences, data sciences, and artificial intelligence, all aligned with Amgen’s mission to improve patient outcomes through groundbreaking research.
Hyderabad’s position as a hub of innovation and technology in biotech and life sciences has grown even stronger with Amgen’s expansion, he added.
“We are committed to your success, your growth and your long-term vision. I request you to invest in research collaborations, skill development programmes and academic partnerships here,” the Chief Minister said, referring to Amgen’s new investments in Hyderabad.
As part of its expansion, Amgen will invest $200 million (nearly Rs1,600 crore) this year in Hyderabad. Currently, Amgen employs 300 professionals in Hyderabad. With this investment, the company plans to add another 300 employees by the end of the year. Over the next three to four years, the workforce is expected to grow to 2,000, making Hyderabad a key global hub for Amgen’s operations.
