Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced that the construction of integrated residential schools in all Assembly constituencies across the State will begin this year, with a budget allocation of Rs 5,000 crore.
Speaking at a media conference at the Secretariat on Sunday, he revealed that the foundation stone for these schools will be laid on October 11, just a day before the Dasara festival. Bhatti described the establishment of Young India Integrated Schools as a historic decision, reiterating the commitment to allocate necessary funds and prioritise education to ensure that Telangana’s human resources can compete globally. “The education will be imparted up to 12th class with international standards in these schools to be constructed in an extent of 20-25 acres. At present, many residential schools were being run in kalyana mandapams, rented buildings and students were facing inconvenience due to lack of pucca buildings. The Indiramma government has resolved to offer quality education to weaker sections right from primary level,” Bhatti Vikramarka said.
“We will construct one integrated residential school in every constituency in an extent of 20 acres to 25 acres. So far details were sent from 25 constituencies about land required for the integrated schools construction and other aspects. These were announced as pilot projects to start the construction work,” he said.
Bhatti Vikramarka said the construction work will be started in other constituencies based on the information received.
He appreciated the entire Cabinet, Chief Secretary and officials of various departments for the exercise put in the last three months for the construction of integrated schools.
“Out of 1,023 residential schools in Telangana, 662 schools are functioning in rented buildings. In this year alone, our government is going to spend Rs 5,000 crores on integrated schools. Previous government had allocated only Rs 73 crore for residential schools in one year,” Bhatti pointed out.
The construction of modern residential school buildings will take into account the temperatures, wind speed, weather conditions of last few years in respective constituencies, he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the construction would be taken up with international standards and in such a way to use green energy and also to enable all sections of society to study together as a family.
He further stated that sports and recreation would also be extended to students to provide stress free academic environment to students. The State government is also considering providing theatres at residential schools to screen films through satellite channels to ensure students are not deprived of anything, he added.
