Hyderabad: A BFSI Consortium, formed under the direction of the State government, is in the process of de-veloping a curriculum to create industry-ready workforce for the GCCs (Global Capability Cen-tres) operating in the BFSI sector. The skill development programme is likely to be introduced in January 2025, in 20 engineering colleges, State Street Bank & Trust, said.

Addressing a conclave, in Hyderabad on Wednesday, Ramesh Kaza, Country IT Head - India, State Street Bank & Trust, said that under a BFSI Consortium, a few of the major companies op-erating GCCs in city have come together to work on providing a curriculum, content and coach-ing to train 10,000 students every year. The programme is expected to commence from January 2025 in 20 engineering colleges, here.

“BFSI Consortium may become a path breaking intervention in the long run in Skill Develop-ment. About 800 GCCs are planning to set up their operations in India, hence Hyderabad has to gear up to attract maximum number of these GCCs by creating an industry-ready workforce,” Kaza noted.

During the inaugural session of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Telangana’s annual flag-ship event, CII Telangana IT Conclave 2024, Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Information Technology, Government of Telangana, welcomed the BFSI Consortium’s move to improve the skill set of the students and ensure steady supply of trained manpower.

“In India we have more than 2,000 GCCs, of which nearly 10 per cent of them, about 200 are located in Hyderabad. Talent plays a major role in attracting GCCs, and over the last three years the city has attracted the largest number of GCCs in the country. As during the Covid, the talent force in city proved that we are highly disciplined and are capable of achieving results,” Jayesh Ranjan added.

Delivering the welcome address, Sai Prasad, Chairman, CII Telangana, emphasised that there is a need to attract GCCs to set up facilities in tier-2 towns like Warangal, Adilabad, Karimnagar, as the need of the hour is to move beyond Hyderabad and achieve holistic development of the State.

Highlighting the growth of startups into GCCs, J A Chowdary, Chairman, International Startup Foundation said that as most of the tasks are getting automated, and technology is playing a key role in job creation, the focus has to now be on creating jobs through startups and GCCs.

Sanjeev Deshpande, Advisor, NTT Data Business Solutions Pvt Ltd, mentioned that good talent pool, infrastructure and low cost of living are making Hyderabad as one of the most attractive destinations in the country. “We have very good startup ecosystem in place, now the need is to provide supportive ecosystem for GCCs,” he said while concluding the inaugural session of the conclave.
