The Telangana government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has announced the distribution of one lakh new ration cards in a single day. This initiative, aimed at addressing long-pending applications, is scheduled for March 1.

The state administration has already established guidelines and procedures for issuing these ration cards. As part of the initiative, the government has compiled a list of families without ration cards based on a caste census survey. This list has been forwarded to district collectors and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner for verification.

The verification process will be conducted at multiple levels. At the mandal level, Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs) will oversee field inspections, while municipal commissioners will handle verifications at the town level. At the district level, the Additional Collector (Revenue) or District Civil Relations Officer will supervise the process.

The draft list will be presented at Gram Sabhas and Ward Sabhas, where details will be read out for public discussion before final approval. Once approved at the village or ward level, the list will be entered into a designated digital platform at the mandal or municipal level. The district collector or GHMC commissioner will review and submit it to the Civil Supplies Commissioner’s login for final approval.

After receiving the verified list, the Civil Supplies Commissioner will issue new ration cards. Authorities will ensure that each eligible household possesses only one ration card and will make necessary additions or deletions to the beneficiary database.

This program was officially launched on January 26, during which 16,900 families received new ration cards. In the upcoming phase, authorities have finalized arrangements for the distribution of additional cards in Hyderabad, along with the erstwhile Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar districts.

Currently, Telangana has 90 lakh ration cards in circulation. The state government plans to add up to six lakh new cards to further extend benefits to eligible families.
