The Nagole sewage treatment plant, which has a capacity of 320 MLD, is one of the largest in the country and is now prepared for commissioning. The plant began trial operations on Monday and is expected to be inaugurated by the end of the month.
To address sewage pollution in the Musi River, which runs through Hyderabad, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has started the construction of 31 new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) with a total capacity of 1259.50 MLD. These projects, costing an estimated Rs 3,866.41 crore, will make Hyderabad the first city in South Asia to treat 100% of its daily sewage.
The Nagole Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), one of the recently constructed facilities, employs Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) technology. This method is known for its superior cost-effectiveness and lower power consumption compared to alternative wastewater treatment methods.
Hyderabad STPs Limited, a subsidiary of Ramky Infrastructure, is in charge of constructing and managing five Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) located on the southern bank of the Musi River as part of Package II. These facilities are located at Nagole, two in Attapur, Kokapet, and Mir Alam Tank. The project has a total value of 1,297 crore, with 908 crore allocated for construction and 389 crore allocated for operation and maintenance over the next 15 years. The five Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) have a combined capacity of 480.50 million litres per day (MLD).
In March, the sewage treatment plants (STPs) located at Kokapet and Mir Alam Tank became operational. The STP at Kokapet treats 15 million litres per day of wastewater, while the STP at Mir Alam Tank treats 41.50 MLD of wastewater daily. The completion of the two Attapur Sewage Treatment Plants is anticipated by October. The Nagole Sewage Treatment Plant, built on 15 acres, consists of a pump house, primary treatment unit, SBR basins, and a chlorine contact tank, serving Saidabad, Malakpet, LB Nagar, Yakutpura, and various other regions.
The Nagole Sewage Treatment Plant offers several significant advantages, such as effectively venting sewage flow into the catchment areas, ensuring that all sewage generated within the project area is treated to 100%, and making the treated water suitable for reuse in agricultural activities.
