In Telangana, major hospitals like Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital are facing a shortage of senior doctors. This is affecting both patients and medical students.

Gandhi Hospital has only two radiologists. Osmania General Hospital does not have a professor in dermatology, leaving PG students without proper teaching.

Additionally, there are no senior cardiologists at these hospitals. This is a problem, as PG medical seats were allocated based on the availability of senior faculty.

The shortage of senior doctors worsened after unplanned transfers made by the State health department. These transfers were done at the request of the government. As a result, patients and PG students are struggling due to the lack of experienced doctors.

Niloufer Hospital did not have a radiologist to teach PG students or evaluate patient tests until a junior radiologist was hired on a contract basis.

Senior professors with over 30 years of experience were sent to remote district hospitals where the requirement is low. Meanwhile, major hospitals in Warangal and Hyderabad, which have more patients and PG students, are still missing senior doctors.

Senior doctors have critisised the transfers, saying they were poorly planned and are impacting medical education and patient care. They urge the government to place senior doctors at major hospitals to maintain high standards of healthcare and training.
