In a remarkable inaugural year of governance, the Congress-led administration in Telangana, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has achieved numerous milestones and implemented significant initiatives that are set to transform the state for future generations. From historic loan waivers to comprehensive welfare programs, the government has demonstrated its commitment to development and social justice.
One of the standout accomplishments is the introduction of the largest farm loan waiver in Independent India, providing critical relief to countless farmers statewide. Additionally, the government has announced the highest number of government job allocations in free India's history, aimed at reducing unemployment and improving livelihoods.
The administration has prioritised agriculture by offering record bonuses for fine rice, leading to unprecedented paddy production since 1947. In a move toward environmental sustainability, all lake encroachments have been halted, marking a significant restoration effort after over 40 years of neglect. Moreover, the Musi River, long troubled by pollution, is undergoing rejuvenation to ensure clean water access for the residents of Hyderabad.
Hyderabad has also become the first city in India to undertake a complete structural overhaul in response to climate challenges, positioning itself for sustainable growth over the next 50 years. This initiative accompanies the establishment of India’s first comprehensive industry-led skill university and the largest sports university in South India.
To enhance women’s welfare, the government has implemented several programs that save women nearly ₹10,000 each month through free bus transportation, assistance with cooking gas expenses, and free electricity for households consuming under 200 units. Farmers benefit significantly from 24/7 free power supply, supporting agricultural activities.
In a bold move toward greener transportation, Hyderabad has commenced the replacement of all petrol and diesel buses with over 3,000 electric buses. Additionally, construction has begun on the world’s largest Gandhi statue at Bapu Ghat, alongside the development of a 200-acre Gandhian pilgrimage site. The water supply system has also undergone a transformation, sourcing drinking water from the Godavari River to serve Hydrabad's growing population.
The government is finalising future city master plans to create modern, future-ready urban spaces, reflecting a commitment to smart urban planning. In education, the state has increased food and well-being budgets for residential school children after a decade of neglect and is working toward establishing world-class facilities for Dalit, tribal, OBC, and minority students. A caste survey has been initiated for a thorough review of policies and resource allocations.
To restore trust and transparency, the government has transferred control of the controversial Dharani portal to the National Informatics Centre for a complete overhaul. Access to government officials has been restored, alongside a commitment to media freedom and the end of censorship.
Economically, Telangana has experienced its highest level of investment in a single year, encompassing foreign institutional investments and domestic public funding. Major infrastructure projects, such as the Regional Ring Road and Ring Rail, have launched, with metro rail expansions underway, contributing to regional development. Warangal, designated as the second capital, is set to receive substantial development projects, while the Indiramma Illu housing initiative has sanctioned 400,000 houses in its first year.
The state has also introduced a universal healthcare scheme, Rajiv Aarogyashri, offering ₹10 lakh coverage per person. Noteworthy advancements in governance transparency are evident, with more than half a million public grievances addressed through the Praja Vani platform. Payroll consistency has improved, ensuring that salaries and pensions for government employees are paid promptly on the 1st of every month.
With plans to unveil the Telangana Talli statue and introduce a new song celebrating state pride, the Congress administration has demonstrated a commitment to both tradition and progress. As Chief Minister Revanth Reddy dedicates 18 hours a day to governance, engaging with citizens to gather feedback and refine policies, Telangana is poised to become a truly Future State. Despite inheriting significant financial challenges, with over ₹7 lakh crore in loans from the previous administration, the focused efforts and innovative policies of the Congress government signal a new era of hope and growth for Telangana.
