A statewide door-to-door survey aimed at assessing the economic, social, and caste status of residents will begin on Wednesday. This caste census, a key election promise made by the Congress, is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Once the data is collected and analysed, it will help the state government tailor welfare and development schemes for marginalised communities and address issues of social and economic inequality.

Congress leaders believe that Telangana will serve as a model for the entire country, offering a roadmap for addressing caste and economic disparities. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi emphasised that the survey is not just about caste but rather a "framework" for broader development.

The survey will be conducted by around 80,000 teams of officials, with each team tasked with visiting approximately 150 households and asking over 50 questions. The survey will capture a wide range of data, including social, economic, educational, income, political, and caste information for all communities.

In addition to government staff, Congress leaders will actively participate in the survey process to encourage participation and assist officials. A monitoring in-charge has been appointed to oversee the survey's coordination, and a "Connect Centre" will be set up at the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) office to coordinate efforts and engage with district observers, DCC presidents, and local committees.

This centre will also help train and mobilise Congress workers at the grassroots level to spread awareness about the survey's importance and benefits. Weekly reviews will be held to track progress and ensure the survey's successful completion.
