Telangana’s ambitious projects Hyderabad Metro Rail and the construction of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) received a major fillip in the Telangana Budget, presented in the Assembly on Thursday by Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

During the budget presentation, he said that his government is committed to strengthening the public transport network as the city is reeling under heavy traffic jams, with special attention on expanding the metro rail network.

The newly elected Congress government has come up with a proposal to construct new metro lines in five corridors with an outlay of Rs 24042 crore. The decision was made after reconsidering the second phase proposal.

The metro line will be extended to the old city and connected to Shamshabad Airport. Likewise, the government will also extend the existing corridors from Nagole to LB Nagar.

Nagole, LB Nagar, and Chandrayanagutta stations will be developed as interchange stations

Other expansions include extending the metro facility from Miyapur to Patancheru and LB Nagar to Hayathnagar.

Bhatti also said the land acquisition process for the construction of RRR is currently underway and will be first constructed as a four-lane road.

Terming the Outer Ring Road (ORR) as a precious jewel around Hyderabad, Bhatti said that the upcoming RRR will also help in the development of several places in the state.

In the latest budget, the government allocated Rs 1,525 crore for the RRR.

The GHMC, HMDA and Metro Water Works Board are like lifelines for citizens of Hyderabad, so the government has allocated sufficient funds to support these departments.

Allocations:

GHMC - Rs 3065 crore

HMDA - Rs 500 crore

Metro Water Works - Rs 3385 crore

Other allocations

HYDRAA - Rs 200 crore

Metro extension to airport: Rs 100 crore

ORR - Rs 200 crore

Hyderabad Metro Rail - Rs 500 crore

Metro extension to Old City - Rs 500 crore

MMTS - Rs 50 crore

Musi Riverfront project - Rs 1500 crore
