Hyderabad: The Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) on Monday announced the launch of ‘Sports Data Gameathon’, a sports AI challenge. The Gameathon will have 52 student teams from IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, and IIIT Dharwad, competing. The top three teams will share a total prize amount of Rs 25 lakh, each receiving, Rs 12.5 lakh, Rs 7.5 lakh, and Rs 5 lakh.

These participants will have to leverage data analytics skills and build AI and ML models to develop a game strategy. Joy Bhattacharya, a renowned Cricket Analyst and Prof Vishal Misra, Vice Dean of AI at Columbia University, US, will be offering their expert guidance to the student teams.

Joy Bhattacharjya, Director General, FIFS, said: “The response for the first edition of the Sports Data Gameathon has been overwhelming. This platform will encourage greater integration of technology with sports, and provide opportunity to youth to hone their skills, engage with the sports community, and contribute to improving the fan experience.”

The participants will have to leverage their data analytics skills to model and forecast outcomes for an entire sports tournament, testing both their analytical thinking and ability to apply cutting-edge decision-making technology to sports, he added.

The participants will assessed based on problem identification and constraints, data collection and analysis, model selection and optimisation, team strategy and collaboration, post-game analysis and technical capabilities, among others.
