Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday participated in the 19th Alai Balai Dussehra programme in Hyderabad. Started by veteran leader and Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, this year’s programme was hosted by his daughter Bandaru Vijayalakshmi.

Bandaru Dattatreya has been organising this non political event for the last 19 years, the chief minister said hoping that his daughter will continue this tradition. “Dattatreya is making all efforts to revive Telangana culture and traditions through Alai Balai. I extend my gratitude to Bandaru Vijayalakshmi for continuing Dattatreya’s legacy. I am confident that she will continue the tradition of conducting Alai Balai every year,” the CM said.

Highlighting the importance of Alai Balai, Reddy mentioned that this programme played a vital role in uniting every section of the society during the Telangana movement, while individual programmes were held by political parties in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. “Alai Balai programme inspired the formation of political JAC when the creation of Telangana statehood was delayed,” he added propagating the importance of preserving Telangana culture.

As Dussehra is a major festival celebrated in Telangana, the CM said he had asked the leaders of all political parties to participate in Alai Balai and take on the responsibility to preserve Telangana culture.
