National Turmeric Board Opened
Hyderabad: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal virtually inaugurated the National Turmeric Board in Nizamabad on Tuesday. This initiative aims to enhance value addition, improve quality, and expand market opportunities for India’s “Golden Spice.”
Speaking at the launch, Minister Goyal emphasised the importance of the occasion, which coincides with celebrations across the country. He announced that the National Turmeric Board would include representatives from various ministries, exporter groups, and producer bodies to ensure a comprehensive approach to the sector’s development.
Highlighting turmeric’s significance, Goyal noted that the Board would prioritise the welfare of turmeric farmers across 20 states, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Meghalaya. He expressed optimism about boosting turmeric production in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, noting that the Board’s initiatives would help increase farmers’ incomes and improve market reach.
Chairperson Palle Ganga Reddy expressed confidence that the Board’s establishment would act as a catalyst for growth in the turmeric sector. The Board’s leadership will focus on fostering collaboration with government agencies and stakeholders to maximise turmeric’s trade potential, particularly in health and wellness markets.
