Hyderabad: The city is gearing up to host the 72nd Miss World Competition, a prestigious global event that is expected to highlight Telangana’s rich culture and tourism potential. The State government has made extensive preparations to ensure the event’s success, viewing it as a significant opportunity to boost international recognition and economic growth.
Ahead of the grand event, a pre-event press conference was held on Thursday, attended by Miss World 2024 Cristina Pijkova, Telangana Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, TGTDC Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, Tourism Principal Secretary Smita Sabharwal, Miss World Limited CEO Julia Morley, and Director of Culture Mamidi Harikrishna.
Expressing her excitement, Miss World Cristina Pijkova praised India’s rich cultural heritage and shared her enthusiasm for being part of an event that celebrates diversity, talent, and empowerment.
Tourism Minister underscored the significance of hosting the global pageant in Telangana, calling it a "historic moment" for the State. "The Miss World competition is more than just a beauty pageant; it symbolises women’s empowerment and ‘beauty with a purpose.’ Women play a vital role in shaping society, and this event aligns with our vision of promoting inclusivity and diversity," he stated.
Drawing comparisons with South Korea’s global cultural success through Squid Game and BTS, the minister emphasised that the Miss World pageant could position Telangana on the international stage. "This event will not only enhance our cultural identity but also attract global investments and employment opportunities for the youth. With over 140 contestants from various countries and thousands of international visitors, we anticipate a significant boost to the tourism sector, generating substantial revenue for the State," he added.
