Hyderabad: To power curriculums of science courses with technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the government of Telangana facilitated the launch of consortium of GCCs (Global Capability Centres) in Life Sciences. At present, 40 Life Sciences companies are the members of the consortium. The course designed by the consortium will support science students to secure jobs at GCCs.
Speaking at the “AI in Healthcare Summit Road to BioAsia-2025,” organised by the State government in the city on Monday, D Sridhar Babu, Telangana IT and Industries Minister, said that the Life Sciences consortium of GCCs, on the lines of BFSI consortium, will explore courses for science students to prepare them for entering the industry.
“GCCs in Life Sciences are on the lookout for the right talent. The government appealed the GCCs through the Director of Life Sciences to form a consortium. After which, 40 companies have come forward to design a science course fused with technology related subject. Through this course, students of this State will be industry ready by the time they graduate,” the IT Minister added.
The logo of the consortium was launched during the event. The course will be introduced based on a hybrid model. Firstly, GCC companies like Dr Reddy’s Laboratories will undertake training related to their vertical at the Young India Skills University, secondly, these GCCs will connect with the Skills University for training in new niche areas, and thirdly, a subject will be introduced in the curriculum of colleges.
The Minister also informed about the government’s plan to set up a Life Sciences sub council of the Telangana Advisory Council for AI. Industry experts harnessing AI in the Life Sciences field will be selected by this week. The Advisory AI Council announced during the Global AI Summit has four members currently, out of the total nine member group.
Telangana government is also in talks with quantum computing professors from Germany, and India for setting up a centre of excellence where innovation and research related to various domains of quantum computing and technology will be driven.
Sridhar Babu said that “the plan is to bring in German and Indian professors to sensitise engineering students about quantum computing through seminars, the first to be held at JNTU, Hyderabad.”
During the summit, a whitepaper on AI-infused Pharma R&D, a whitepaper on the Growth and Evolution of Global Capability Centres in India by Deloitte, and a report on cyber resilience in hospitals, were released.
